U.S. Dept. of Veteran Affairs - August 18, 2025
This interview with Ron Gasper (the character, Joe) and his daughter, reminds us of the service our elderly citizens gave to our communities and our nation!!  "Louis Ron Gasper, U.S.C.G Chief, Retired, served in the U.S. Coast Guard, first as an engineer on the USCGS Citrus and then for two years as a lighthouse keeper at the Rock of Ages lighthouse in Lake Superior. After active duty, Ron served 32 years in the active reserves and another four years on standby. Now, 90 years old and facing Parkinson’s disease and other health challenges, Ron wants to stay at home, surrounded by family."

Northern Wilds Magazine - Strange Tales Column July 2025
“I want young children to fall in love with the stories of Lake Superior, the Great Lakes, and lighthouses...restoring the past can enhance our future,” said Winchell. “My message to my young readers (and their parents) is to know and appreciate who they are, being proud of themselves whether they are quiet or loud, cerebral or physical, reserved or gregarious, etc. We all have something to offer—for some of us it might take a little longer to uncover what that is.”

Faces of Canoecopia 2025 | Meet Deborah Winchell and Renee Andriani, illustrator and author of Rocky’s Lighthouse Adventure: A Lake Superior Tale. “It’s quite the marvel of engineering!” Sitting upon a rock off the archipelago that makes up Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior, the Rock of Ages Light is one of the most remote lighthouses in the Great Lakes.
...There’s three shipwrecks just off outside the door,” shared Winchell about the Rock of Ages Light."

Boreal Community Media - November 26, 2024
"Deborah’s journey is a measure of the power of passion and patience that storytelling requires.  Through Rocky’s Lighthouse Adventure, she has created a legacy for Rock of Ages Lighthouse, and has created a tangible connection to its history."

Lake Superior Magazine - December '24/January '25
"The book is a great way to introduce an interest in Lake Superior history and heritage...The pleasing story and witty illustrations will keep young and old happily reading along...
and maybe dream of their own visit to the Big Lake and one of its lighthouses."
